Trees of Stockton

A Mistletoe Tree

Slides of the Tree

Welcome to SaveStockton.org

Stockton has been a Tree City for many years.

We have been endowed with a wonderful climate that allows a huge variety of vegetation to grow, Our Summers are hot and dry, so some trees do not like it too well, but the majority of those from the temperate and sub-tropical climates do well.

What the trees do not like is inattention. Over the last 70 years, as Stockton's trees grew, they were young and vigorous. As they aged, however, they became more susceptible to disease and parasites.

The most visible evidence of our trees problems is seen during the winter months when the leafy canopy is gone. We see the green of misletoe.

There are other diseases that affect our trees, and they all reqire attention in a timely manner or the tree will die sooner than other trees planted in the area at the same time.

Furthermore, diseased trees provide a vector for disease and parasites.

For example: Mistletoe is spread when the small white berries are eaten, usually by birds seeking winter food. The seeds are then dropped as part of the droppings, and if they collect in a crack, crevice, or bough they can sprout sending roots into the branch. As the misletoe grows, it sucks the nutrients the tree needs to grow. If too much misletoe grows, it will eventually kill the entire tree. Here is a simple slideshow. The first pictures are February with spring blossoms, the last are in June.

We have an opportunity to work with each other to develop a real tree ordinance to encourage the protection and preservation of the trees and maintain Stockton's status as a Tree City.

We are making changes. The main forums are now HERE

With the advent of the new school year we understand that shchools in the region may be able to use a better venue for getting out the scores for games and matches. There may also be a desire to have a venue for general team information that needs to easily updated. We have started by adding sections to the Stockton Chat Zone. It is there for the community, and we can expand as the need presents itself. Just like any other forum site on the web, just create a personal user and away you go.

We also are building a set of regular web pages to represent each school in the community that wishes such a representation. If someone else wants to build the basic page, we can get it in place.

The Stockton Chat forum has been evolving and can now be found in Stockton's Chat Zone at http://SaveStockton.org/zone. Please feel free to share with us what you would like to see added. Just feel free to drop an email to us at Mayor@SaveStockton.org. Our spam filter is not perfect, so don't think we have ignored you. Just resend or drop a note in the Chat Zone forums right here. We do require a registration to help keep the forums a safe place for the community. Please click on the report to moderator any content that is not appropriate.

There is a Forum for Teachers Visit it here

Teaching our children is a special skill that requires devotion and stamina and a level of commitment that cannot begin to be measured or understood by the rest of us. As teachers experience things in their career there is a need to share with their peers. This forum is meant for a place for teachers to have protected speech. This Forum will be moderated, and only educators are invited to post.

There is a Victims Forum Help those in need

The Arena contract process

Exciting things are happening. We just had the Mayor declare the City of Stockton is moving into a new level of "We Serve The People." He wants to serve us power, replacing PG&E and running our own SPA or Stockton Power Authority. Is this a good idea?

Add your comments in the forums. Anyone can comment!

For the site to truly work, we need your attention and help regarding the content. Tell us when you see something and possibly send us a picture and we can add it to the "Something's Right" or "Something's Wrong" pages. Right now the pages are not there because we don't have content from the community to put up. Share with us.

The Arena contract process

On March 2, 2004 a contract was executed between the City of Stockton and International Facilities Group (IFG) regarding the management of the Stockton Arena and other venues. What we do know is the contract is very favorable to IFG. What we don't know, yet, are the deliberations that took place in creating this contract. Due to retention policies in place, the documents supporting the development of the contract. The policy, based on regulatory requirements, allowed for destruction of the documents 2 years after execution of the contract. 2 1/2 months after Mark C. Lewis was fired. We have requested documentation regarding the destruction of documents as well as the documents themselves. What6 still exists is unknown, but we shall provide what we can in the future to those desiring answers.

There is an arena section. More stuff will be posted there going forward.

For now, here are the primary contracts as provided by the City of Stockton.

Chinese & Vietnamese New Year Parade

On March 1, 2008 there was a parade celebrating the Chinese and Vienamese New Year. Lots of Fun. We have over 200 pictures up in a photo gallery to show everyone what fun the day was.

Why this site is here

We are here as a place to develop the City of Stockton into a fine place to live work and play. There is a need to enrich the folks of the city with the good stuff, let's help everyone along.

An item that needs community input is the SUSD bond, Measure Q. Please jump in and discuss it now!

What are your thoughts? What can we do? What would you like to do? Can you help provide some content?

Drop us a note in the suggestion features forum. If you want to be contacted from the forums you must register with a valid email address. Posting email adresses on the internet is never a great idea, and often a bad one.

We are developing daily

There is a lot of work that goes into developing a website. As a result this site will be changing frequently, even daily at times. You may look for something that was here, but is now gone. Be patient and come visit us regularly to see what is new. If you see an error that really bothers you drop us a note on the discussion forum. Tell us what you think might help. As the site matures, there will be fewer changes to the look and feel, but there will still be much going on behind the scenes.
